Malas
las are a used in meditation as well as a tool for Yogis while practicing. They're often called prayer beads and serve a number of functions. That function is purely at the discretion of the practitioner but can include meditation, bringing about a sense of calmness, or they can be used to help set intention as they help one obtain and focus clarity. Of course, one doesn't need to be a yogi to use them. They are for anyone who seeks a calmer mind, body, and spirit.
Traditionally, malas have 108 beads. The number 108 is spiritually significant for myriad reasons. Some claim that during deep meditation, practitioners take only 108 breaths while others believe that the numbers 1, 0, and 8 represent God, Emptiness, and Infinity. Still others suggest it refers to the number of paths to God or Spiritual Englightenment. Whatever significance they have for you, the energy, beauty, and elegance of these strands is undeniable.
